Dr Damian Roland is a Consultant at the University of Leicester NHS Trust and Honorary Professor for the University of Leicester SAPPHIRE group. He specialises in Paediatric Emergency Medicine and is a passionate believer that education exists to be shared – the #FOAMed social movement providing a mechanism to do this.
His research interests include evaluation of educational interventions and improving the recognition of illness in children (his publications are available in the works section of his OCRID profile). He has developed the Paediatric Observation Priority Score (POPS), now available as an app, which is currently undergoing validation via an East Midlands HIEC and College of Emergency Medicine grant.
He was part of the management team that delivered “Spotting the Sick Child”, a patient safety award winning educational website and was shortlisted for a 2011 and 2014 NICE Shared Learning award.
Having been a trainee representative at regional and national level and chair of the Academy of Medical Royal Colleges Trainee Doctors Group for three years he is passionate about engagement and ensuring advocacy for all, not just the most vocal. He has previously been involved with the Faculty of Medical Leadership and Management and Medical Education England.
